W is for Why Not!

What I’ve learned about the best-of-the-best … the top achievers … is that their default response is, “Why not!” From celebrity entertainers to best-selling authors, from Governors to Senators to champion athletes, they have stepped out of fear-avoidance and stepped into a Why Not mentality. They are bold, daring and unafraid. Neither failure nor injury frightens them—at all. When presented with an absurd or seemingly unattainable challenge, such superstars tend to think, “Heck yeah, I’ll give it a try. The worst that can happen is that I attempt it and fail. No big deal. Why not!”

2010 Career Challenge: V = Victories

V is for victories. Celebrate small victories.

In today’s lean, downsized, increasingly self-managed environment, there are fewer and fewer occasions where someone will be there (in person) to give you a pat on the back when you’ve done a great job. Yet, you are expected to do great things on a frequent basis. While that’s entirely backwards and rather sad, it is reality. So you’d better become darn good at high-fiving yourself… at patting yourself on the back.

Learn to celebrate small victories. Sometimes you have to celebrate by yourself.
